Dr. Manal Shehabi is an Oxford-based applied economist with recognized expertise in policy-driving research on development, energy, economic, and resource sustainability associated with resource dependence. Her research covers the global south, with a focus on the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) and Gulf regions, as well as North-South interactions on the energy transition and climate policy. Beyond academia, Dr. Shehabi frequently advices policymakers, international organizations, and thinktanks. She is also a transfer pricing expert and has shaped corporate strategies and operations with tangible outcomes, including to including Fortune 500 companies, in mining, oil & gas, petrochemical, and other industries.
Previously, she was Academic Visitor at St Antony's College, the University of Oxford, and Senior Research Fellow and OIES-KFAS Research Fellow at the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies, Doctoral Research & Tutor at the University of Western Australia, Research Assistant at Texas &M University. She served as the in-house expert for a mining and oil and gas services company, economist/consultant in consulting firms, and business public policy project manager. With experience in both academia and the corporate and policy worlds across the globe, she advises governments, corporations (including Fortune 500 companies) and international institutions. She's a polyglot, who speaks fluent English, Arabic, French, Spanish, Mandarin Chinese (intermediate), and knows basic Hebrew and Italian. She is cited and interviewed by various popular media outlets (such as TIME Magazine, Bloomberg, the ABC, the BBC, Al-Jazeera). She received various awards, honors, and grants.
Dr. Shehabi taught graduate and undergraduate courses of economics to economics students and non-specialists. She has extensive experience delivering training to poilcymakers globally. She lived in 8 countries across 4 continents. A polyglot, she speaks multiple languages including Arabic, French, Spanish, and Mandarin Chinese. She enjoys being active-- running, boxing, and dancing-- and has been a volunteer yoga teacher to refugee women in Oxford.
